Species: Human. Or God. Or rip in the fabric of the universe. It depends on who you ask, since no one is completely sure.
Sexuality: Alien/time-traveler/esper-sexual - it doesn't matter what gender as long as they're interesting. She never refuses to go out with anyone, but will break up with them as soon as she is sure they're just an ordinary person (sometimes her relationships last as little as five minutes).
Appearance: Haruhi has dark brown hair that reaches down to her shoulders, with bangs that sweep from one side of her face to the other rather than being straight. In her hair she wears an orange-yellow headband with matching ribbons on the left and right which hang down. Her eyes are yellow. She is most commonly seen wearing her school uniform: a sailor-style uniform with a white shirt (long-sleeved in the winter, short-sleeved in the summer), light blue collar and skirt, and a red ribbon, as well as a red SOS Brigade armband that she made herself. She also wears black knee-socks and brown shoes. She has the average figure and height of a girl her age, and many of the boys in her school consider her to be quite good-looking.
Personality: Haruhi acts cold towards people she finds uninteresting. Her interest in aliens, time-travelers, and other paranormal phenomena is what brings out her true personality: loud, bossy, and determined. She feels she must always have her way, and demands perfection from herself and those around her. She doesn't seem to mind when other people see her display what would be considered strange behaviour, such as painting strange symbols onto the school field or changing her clothes for gym before her male classmates have even left the room. In fact, it seems that she would rather be seen as strange and hard to understand - for example, at the beginning of the school year, she had long hair and wore it in a different style for each day of the week. When Kyon finally asked the reason for this, she explained the pattern of the hairstyles, and the next day she came to school with short hair, apparently no longer having a reason to continue the ritual now that someone understood it.
Abilities/Strengths: Can unconsciously change the reality around her to what she desires (example: she wants to meet aliens, time travelers and espers, and therefore they exist), based on her emotions, though she doesn't realize it. However (because that's pretty godmodey), these powers are far less potent in universes other than her own, only allowing her to make slight alterations to the space around her (and still not consciously). She also has above-average athletic skill.
Weapons: None, but she could probably adapt quickly to using one if needed to
Weaknesses: She doesn't consider others' feelings, and tends to try to use people weaker than her to get what she wants. Can't stand not having her way, and hates for others to see her showing weakness. Can't use her powers consciously, and isn't aware that she even has them.
History:
As a child, Suzumiya Haruhi believed herself to be a unique and special person. One day, however, she attended a baseball game with her family, and the mind-boggling number of people in the stadium alone gave her a sense of perspective - there were billions of people in the world doing the same things as her, and she was just another face in the crowd. This gave Haruhi the motivation to begin her search for at least one person in the world who was completely out of the ordinary.
On the first day of high school, Haruhi introduced herself to the class by stating that she had no interest in ordinary humans, and invited any "aliens, espers, time travelers, and sliders" in the class to come join her. Of course, this didn't exactly produce results, and the school clubs were equally disappointing. Eventually, Haruhi decided - with the "help" of (read: she forced him to) the only person who would talk to her, Kyon - to form a club of her own, called the SOS Brigade, the purpose of which is to find strange phenomena and have fun with them.
Apart from Kyon, she "recruited" the silent Nagato Yuki, the moe Asahina Mikuru (who she tends to force into embarrassing situations and/or outfits), and the "mysterious transfer student" Koizumi Itsuki. Unknown to her, these members were in fact the alien, time traveler, and esper (respectively) that she had created the club to find. As Kyon learns from each of them, three years prior, a major change occurred in the universe, with Haruhi apparently at the center. Yuki, Mikuru, and Koizumi had been sent by their respective organizations to monitor her behavior, and to keep Haruhi entertained so that she wouldn't become bored with the universe and destroy it - Haruhi being completely oblivious to all of this.
